I have, who has? is a whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, perfect for practicing, reinforcing and refreshing a range of animals in Spanish. The game is ideal for language learning, with a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking & reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice - I point out particular phonemes, sounds and accents too - such as the tilde on the letter ñ, and how important that is in creating the correct sound of the word.
The aim of the game is to create a Spanish sentence chain as quickly as possible, starting with Tengo la primera tarjeta, and ending with the final card, Tengo la última tarjeta. The design is four cards per page, which allows for a large font - this is really important for beginner language learners who are beginning to familiarise themselves with the written word, and starting to link spelling with sound.
There are 25 animals featured in the game:
bee : bird : butterfly : cat : caterpillar : chicken : cow : dog : dolphin : donkey : duck : fish : fox : frog : horse : kangaroo : monkey : mouse : owl : parrot : pig : rabbit : sheep : spider : tortoise / turtle
All the animals may not be in my immediate or longer-term learning plan, but the learning objective of the game moves beyond simply practicing or consolidating individual units of vocabulary or practicing particular grammar points: it’s about actively learning new language too.
There is implicit input on grammatical concepts such as singular and plural, adjectival agreement, gender, definite, indefinite and partitive articles and position of adjectives, either preceding or proceeding the particular noun, which can differ from language to language: I’ve found this is really useful for students who may be learning more than one language at a particular time. This is a very successful way of really getting the most of what looks like a straightforward game for consolidating the target vocabulary - it is actually so much more!
Laminate the cards if you can: they’re far more learner-friendly, and last in excellent condition for years, so you’ll be able to use them over and over again.

Dominoes games are an ideal language learning activity, and a lively alternative to more traditional practice and consolidation activities. These games will help students build up and embed their knowledge of how to tell the time in Spanish in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. Students can work happily challenging themselves and each other to create a perfect domino time sequence line. The game has a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, and reading.
There are three games, each with a slightly different level of challenge:
Challenge One features a range of clock times,o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past the hour - students tend to learn those clock times first, so it’s good to have a real focus on them to ensure students are confident with the general concept of telling the time in Spanish. I’ve used en punto to express o’clock, but I point out to students that it’s not absolutely necessary, and they’ll see Es la una for example, perhaps even more frequently than Es la una en punto, which tends to convey a certain emphasis. The time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face.
Challenge Two features a range of all analogue clock times, and is a slightly longer game than Challenge One. Again, the time phrase appears first, followed by the clock face.
Challenge Three also features a range of analogue clock times, and is the same size as Challenge Two. In this challenge, the clock face appears first, followed by the time phrase, which works slightly differently on recall, and really does help to consolidate knowledge.
There’s definitely prep involved - download, print out, and laminate. Laminating is definitely worth the extra time and expense, because the dominoes are far more learner-friendly, and will last in excellent condition for years. The background design on each challenge is different, allowing students to identify which challenge the individual dominoes belong to.

These are whole-group lively & communicative language learning games, ideal for practising, reinforcing and consolidating 99 high-frequency French verbs. The games have a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking and reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. They’re perfect for pronunciation practice too. Active learning is a really successful way of developing both language skills and general confidence. The Christmas-theme is really popular around the holidays. The verbs are in the infinitive form, and the aim of the games is to create a French verb chain as quickly as possible.
There are two games, each with a slightly different challenge:
Challenge 1: verbs are in alphabetical order, with the question and answer format: J’ai… Qui a… ?
Challenge 2: verbs are in random order, with the question and answer format: As-tu… ? Oui/Non, j’ai…
In both challenges, the English translation of the verb appears immediately below the French verbs, which maximises opportunity for really embedding vocabulary. The game works just as well if the cards are placed on a longish table, or other flat surface. I created the games for my advanced beginner French learners, who are ready to move towards intermediate French, but I’ve also played them with my more advanced learners, who really enjoy ’going back to the start’ and having the opportunity to get up, walk about and talk - the games definitely provide some essential variety in learning activities.
There is an alphabetical French-English verb list, featuring all the verbs used in the game. This is useful as a longer-term reference resource too.

CHRISTMAS DOMINOES FRENCH VERBS! 99 high-frequency French verbs Christmas differentiated dominoes - 3 games, 3 challenges - great for keeping your students joyful at Christmas!
The lessons in the run-up to Christmas are a great opportunity to revisit language learnt earlier on in the school year - Christmas-themed resources really do seem to be a great motivator! My students love to work independently, and just get on with things - I have several folders of learning resources that they can select in free-choice time, and the dominoes are a big favourite!
The 99 French verbs and their English equivalent are in the infinitive form. There are 3 differentiated games, each with a different level of challenge:
Challenge One
the verbs are in alphabetical order, French to English
Challenge Two
the verbs are in random order, French to English
Challenge Three
the verbs are in random order, English to French
My students really like to have a reference sheet too, so I’ve included one here - we use it as a year-round resource, not just at Christmas! It’s definitely worth the effort to laminate the dominoes - they’re far more user-friendly, and they last for many Christmas lessons!

FRENCH CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES - CHRISTMAS IS ON ITS WAY! 99 BEGINNERS FRENCH WORDS & PHRASES, 198 MATCHING FRENCH & ENGLISH VOCAB CARDS WITH A 60-QUESTION MULTI-SKILL QUIZ!
I think students appreciate the chance to try something new in lessons during the run-up to Christmas, and I always have several sets of vocab cards that they can revisit language we learnt earlier in the year - it really is the perfect time to practice and consolidate knowledge. The Christmas theme gets them feeling pretty festive, and they’re more than happy to work independently together, selecting the areas of vocab they feel they’d like to focus on. There are lots of games they enjoy playing, and I’ve described several that are really popular. The quiz works well as a whole-group quiz, but I always give my students a pdf version that they can load on to tablets to play the quiz in small groups if they prefer to do it that way.
The French vocabulary I’ve focused on here is a selection of:
Les salutations
Les jours de la semaine
Les mois de l’année
Les quatre saisons de l’année
Les nombres 0 à 31
Les couleurs
Quelques pays du monde

A whole-group lively & communicative language learning game, ideal for practising, reinforcing and consolidating 99 high-frequency Italian verbs. The game has a multi-skill focus: listening, speaking and reading, with an important bonus focus on social interaction and participation. It’s perfect for pronunciation practice too. Active learning is a really successful way of developing both language skills and general confidence.
The verbs are in the infinitive form, and the aim of the game is to create an Italian verb chain as quickly as possible. There are two games, each with a slightly different challenge:
Challenge 1: verbs are in alphabetical order, with the question and answer format: Io ho… Chi ha… ?
Challenge 2: verbs are in random order, with the question and answer format: Hai… Sì, ho…
In both challenges, the English translation of the verb appears immediately below the Italian verbs, which maximizes opportunity for really embedding vocab. The game works just as well if the cards are placed on a longish table, or other flat surface. I created the game for my KS3 Italian learners, who are ready to move into KS4 Italian, but I’ve also played the game with my more advanced learners, who really enjoy ’going back to the start’ and having the opportunity to get up, walk about and talk - the games definitely provide some essential variety in learning activities.
I’d definitely recommend you laminate the cards, despite the extra prep and expense. They’re far more learner-friendly, and they will last for absolutely years. Distribute the cards, one or two per student, depending on how many students you have in your group. I frequently use a timer when we play. Playing in teams, using either a single challenge, or with both challenges, is really popular - students find the competitive element really motivating and are genuinely keen to see which team can finish first, and whether they can beat their own time record. I always do some high-speed verb quiz oral warm-up and warm-down activities to really get the most out of the game, for example ***Come si dice APRIRE in inglese? or Vero o falso - TO OPEN è APRIRE in italiano?***.
There is an alphabetical Italian-English verb list, featuring all the verbs used in the game. This is useful as a longer-term reference resource too.

These French animals display posters / flashcards create a fabulous French look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote French as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of French. They introduce learners to a range of animals in French from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with how French words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form.
Students definitely notice the different words for a/an, and ask why some animals are un, and others are une. I’ve used this as a useful prompt to introduce the concept of gender.
There are 20 animals using the masculine and feminine indefinite article, which is a great opportunity to begin to compare French to English. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as ours and loup. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which I’ve found to be really useful for both current and later learning.
The animals are: a bear : a bee : a bird : a butterfly : a cat : a dog : a fish : a fox : a frog : a horse : a kangaroo : a monkey : a mouse : an owl : a parrot : a rabbit : a spider : a squirrel : a turtle / a tortoise : a wolf
It doesn’t matter if some of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the posters / flashcards provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of new and unknown words from visual clues or prompts.

These French speaking prompt cards are perfect for developing speaking skills - there are 200 question and answer cards and two reference books focusing on beginning and general conversation with some cultural knowledge. I created them for my advanced beginner to intermediate French learners. They’re also great for multi-skill language learning - they give students structured talk opportunities and will also get them listening, reading and writing. As their confidence and competence develop, my students begin to rely less on the prompts, and are able to produce language really creatively. The cards ideal for independent learning, and perfect for pair and small-group work. There are also a lot of games you can play with the cards, and I’ve described a range of those that work really well for us.
The reference books include all the questions and answers written out in French. Students find these very useful learning support resources and they’re also handy whole-group pronunciation practice and reading-out loud resources. My students use them to guide their own creative use of language, as a kind of writing frame, as they create new questions and answers for each other. We use the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps template to reflect on learning, and to think about what we might reasonably do to progress in our learning - it’s really useful to guide and inform whole-group discussion.
The question and answer card writing templates give students the opportunity to apply their French practically and creatlvely, as they put together both questions and answers for each other, which is integral to successful language learning. This is a really popular with my students, and a great team activity too.

These German Europe flashcards / posters are always really popular with my students and great for the beginning of a new school year to decorate your learning environment with specific learning goals. They’re really useful for creating and instant and comprehensive introduction to Europe in German. There are 144 portrait posters (A4, 8.5 x 11) in German showing European countries, capital cities and flags. They give your classroom a great multicultural look and feel, at the same time promoting German as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your - and your students’ - classroom. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography.
I’ve included a range of islands, such as the Faroe Islands, to extend students’ knowledge of Europe a little further, and I’ve also shown some countries, for example Armenia, that are often classed as belonging either to Europe or to Asia. I’ve also included two posters for some countries, such as France, officially known as Französische Republik - you can choose either that, or the more frequently-used Frankreich to display.
The posters look great displayed horizontally across a particular learning area - alphabetically works well, though non-alphabetically is perfect for a country quest activity. They’re ideal for the annual Europe Day celebration, and the European Day of Languages, as well as an all year round display. It’s definitely extra prep and expense, but I do always laminate my classroom display posters / flashcards - they hang on the walls more easily, and I recycle them to display at different times of the school year. There are two backgrounds to choose from - World Map or plain, so 144 posters in total.
